Hyperlast’s ‘Traffideck’® surfacing system wins an ‘Airbus’ vessel contract from LDA and Hoegh Shipping.

‘Traffideck’®, the high-performance, anti-skid surfacing system manufactured by Hyperlast Limited, has been chosen by the French/Norwegian joint venture of Louis Dreyfuss Armateurs (LDA) and Hoegh Shipping to treat four of their new vessels.

The first of these, the ‘Ville de Bordeaux’ built at the Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, P.R. China, has recently been treated with over 3,000 m2 of ‘Traffideck’ SD30 and SD60, and this vessel, a PCTC (pure car and truck carrier), will carry wings for the new A380 from the Airbus factory in Chester, England, to the assembly plant in Toulouse, France.

Antiskid and waterproofing capabilities apart, ‘Traffideck’ is a protective, durable and hard-wearing surface. Traffideck can be installed quickly on most substrates at lower temperatures, and it is fast setting, providing the benefit of a speedy return to service of the area being coated. ‘Traffideck’ is a seamless membrane, which, nevertheless, absorbs and allows minor structural movements and deflections caused by traffic. It is also resistant to chloride and attack from automotive fuels and oils. The system combines outstanding impact resistance with durability under heavy traffic.

The Jinling shipyard’s painting department under the supervision of a Hyperlast technician carried out the surfacing works for these ships. Working to a tight schedule, and in close co-operation with other trades, the main deck and ramps were treated with Grip 4000 and 4000X used in combination with a 1-2 and a 3-5mm mm aluminium oxide aggregate respectively.

From start to finish the contract took 11 days to complete. This resounding success demonstrates a successful working partnership between a British resin manufacturer and the Chinese contractor.

Traffideck systems are used to protect steel and concrete across a range of industries, typical applications include Bridge Decks, Car Parks, Walkways, Balconies, Green Roofs etc.
